About Us
Pratham Education Foundation is committed to transforming the education landscape in India by addressing gaps in the system through high-quality, low-cost, and replicable interventions. With a mission to eliminate illiteracy and alleviate poverty, Pratham focuses on improving learning outcomes, ensuring school retention, training teachers, developing innovative educational methodologies, and mobilizing volunteers. Its initiatives span urban and rural programs tailored to specific challenges, such as reducing school dropout rates in urban slums and enhancing foundational skills like reading, writing, and arithmetic for rural children aged 6 to 14 years. Programs like Early Years and Elementary Years are implemented directly and through government partnerships, while the Second Chance Program empowers women and marginalized groups to complete their secondary education. The Read India initiative has reached over 30 million children, improving literacy and numeracy through the CAMaL (Combined Activities for Maximised Learning) methodology. Beyond traditional education, Pratham Books fosters reading habits in children with affordable and diverse storybooks, and Pratham Infotech Foundation promotes digital literacy and vocational training for disadvantaged youth. Recognized with awards such as the BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Award and the Skoll Award for Social Entrepreneurship, Pratham continues to lead scalable, impactful change, building a future where every child has access to quality education.
