Pelag Foundation continuously conducts its activities with the target population and areas. At Pelag Foundation, we believe that education, healthcare, and economic independence are foundational elements of a thriving society. Our commitment to trauma-informed care and empathetic outreach enables us to actively engage with diverse stakeholders, ensuring that we break the cycle of poverty that plagues many families.
With our focus on women, children, and youth, we recognize that these groups hold the potential to catalyze substantial positive change. By providing access to resources and opportunities, we empower individuals to reach their full potential, thereby aiding in the construction of a more just and equitable society.
The affected groups, notably women, children, and marginalized youth, experience the harsh realities of limited rights and resources, leading to a cycle of dependency and hopelessness. The inability of local systems to adequately equip these groups with tools for empowerment and self-sufficiency can perpetuate the cycle of poverty. Given the existing gaps in governmental support, Pelag Foundation intends to step in, offering a comprehensive model designed to enhance community resilience and improve educational and economic outcomes.
The need for active intervention is urgent, so the proposed project will focus on empowering these communities and ultimately fostering a more equitable future. Recognizing the transformative power of education, the Pelag Foundation strongly emphasises providing children with access to quality educational resources and opportunities. By doing so, Pelag Foundation empowers the younger generation with knowledge and skills essential for their future. This strategic focus on children’s education is pivotal in breaking the cycle of poverty, as education equips them with the tools to overcome adversity and build brighter prospects.
Pelag Foundation organizes many drawing competitions in different schools and also donated one UV water purifier to Primary School, Balta, Block Hawalbag, Almora to provide purified water to poor children, and organized education tours for primary poor children. The Pelag Foundation understands the pivotal role that women in these communities. As such, their initiatives are thoughtfully designed to elevate the status of women, promote gender equality, and raise awareness of women’s rights.
By empowering women with education, skills and a voice in their communities, the foundation not only enhances the lives of individual women but also contributes to broader community development. This approach recognizes that the progress of these communities is intrinsically linked to the well-being and empowerment of women. In many of these underserved communities, agriculture is a primary source of livelihood. The Pelag Foundation actively supports agricultural development programs that aim to enhance farming practices, increase crop yields, and supports sustainable agricultural methods.
This not only improves food security within the communities but also enhances their economic stability. By introducing modern agriculture practices and sustainable farming techniques, the foundation enables these communities to maximize their agricultural potential, thereby improving their overall quality of life. Pelag Foundation organized a day Mela at Bhimtal in which women-oriented small agricultural and handicraft producer young women groups and innovative producer groups participated.
Pelag Foundation has established some women Self Help Groups (SHGs) and linked these SHGs with banks. These SHG women members have registered with the P.M. Viswakarma Scheme to get tailoring skills under the scheme, the process of the same is in progress as per the terms & conditions of the P.M. Viswakarma Scheme. We have also organised food processing training programs for these SHG members with the help of the Uttarakhand Horticulture Department.
