Flood in Uttarkashi Story: On 05th August 2025, 08 villages of the Bhatwari block of Uttarkashi district were highly affected by Flash Flood. Dharali was one of the villages that was highly affected by the flood. As per the data shared by local people, 68 people are missing, 114 residential houses, and 121 business points (hotel, Dhaba, shops) have been completely washed out. In addition to this, the agricultural land and fruit orchard are also washed out.

Flood in Uttarkashi Story
Govt has immediately started the search and rescue works and evacuated more than 1300 people safely. Now people required support to restore their houses, food, sanitation facilities, livelihood, and education also. This will happen only with the support of outside people, organizations and corporates. SVAP Society is closely working with the affected people and seeking support for the rehabilitation of the affected people and restoration of their losses.
Uttarkashi Flood Highlight
The flash flood has highly impacted to 08 villages i.e.Dharali, Harshil, Mukhwa, Bagori, Purali, Jhala, Jaspur and Sukkhi and also partially affected to 13+ more villages of the Bhatwari block of Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand State.
The team has collected the basic information of the affected families, like types of damages, response program from government and local NGO,s and immediate needs of the affected families from different sources, and found that-

- Over 68 people, including 08 local villagers and 09 Indian Army personnel, are reported missing, and 01 death has been confirmed.
- 114 families identified by the government department who lost their residential houses
- 121 families/individuals have lost their shops, restaurants/Dhaba, hotels, and homestays
- NDRF, SDRF, and Indian Army teams are conducting search and rescue operations and the search of missing people is still going on.
- Over 1,300 individuals have been evacuated to safety locations and the evacuation work is still going on.
- Two relief camps are currently operational by NDRF and local people at Dharali village and one camp by Indian army at Harshil village.
- Massive damage of public infrastructure including roads, electricity, bridges etc. are recorded.
- The damaged electricity line has been restored
- Mobile network is still not working smoothly
- People do not have any market to sale their season vegetables, fruits and dairy products and they will have major loss of earning in coming time.
Due to the extreme cold climate, most families from the villages of Dharali, Mukhwa, Harshil, and Bagori migrate to lower-altitude areas of Uttarkashi during October and November. They typically return to their native villages around March and April each year. Local communities rely heavily on the Public Distribution System (PDS) and nearby shops to meet their food grain requirements because in the affected villages, the cultivation of paddy, wheat, and other staple grains is minimal due to climatic and soil limitations.
