Concern for Humanity
Concern for Humanity is a Delhi based, more than two decades old organization, primarily working in the education space and it also has a budding women empowerment portfolio. Since its inception, Concern for Humanity (CFH) has been impacting the lives of vulnerable children who did not have access to schools or were school dropouts by providing them the opportunity of a bright future through education. In two decades of its efforts, CFH has established a firm footing. It has implemented education programs for poor deprived children and has reached out to nearly 16,000 vulnerable children in the slums of Delhi. In education space, the focus has been on improving the learning outcomes of in-school children by way of providing remedial education support. In consonance with the New Education Policy, 2020 and Government’s emphasis to reduce the dropout rate and increase the enrolment and retention of the students in the schools, CFH has a two-pronged strategy. We are working in the Government Primary Schools run by Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) where we run Shikshashalas (Remedial Education centres for improving the foundational literacy and numeracy) within the school premises, and in the community we reach out to in-school girls by way of running Learning Centres (Bal Shiksha Kendras) in the slums in South Delhi. The classroom education is complemented with Computer Learning Centres, where the senior grade students learn basic computer skills and English communication. The Learning Centres open after the school hours, and cater to academic needs of girls from grade 3 – grade 12. At these centres, once the students enrol, they stay with us till they complete their twelfth grade. It may be pertinent to mention that many of our girls have taken admission in colleges after completing twelfth. Concern for Humanity is also running a training cum production centre (Cutting & Tailoring) for the adolescent girls and for young women in the Sanjay Colony slum, Near Asola Wild Life Sanctuary, Delhi. Here, the trainees learn to stitch basic garments and also take professional orders.
About Us
Concern for Humanity (CFH) is a Not for Profit, non-political, secular, voluntary organisation established in the year 2001 by young professionals having high octane enthusiasm to work for the integrated and sustainable development of the poor and deprived communities. It is registered under Societies’ Registration Act 1860 and the donations to it are 50% tax exempt under section 80G of IT Act. It is registered with Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs, Government of India, for implementing CSR programmes; with Niti Ayog and also with the Ministry of Home Affairs under Foreign Contribution Regulations Act, 1976. Since its inception, CFH has been working in Education space by way of running Learning Centres (Bal Shiksha Kendras) in slums of Delhi; and through its intervention has helped, during the last 24 years, over 16,000 vulnerable children in slums to continue their education in schools, and many of whom have successfully completed their school education up to 12th standard. These Learning Centres at present numbering 10, are located in the slums of Delhi, Gurugram and Greater NOIDA, Gautam Budh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh and are providing opportunities to children for their holistic development. The entire strategy at the Learning Centres revolves around remedial education . The focus is on helping children to cope with their academic studies in formal schools through – one to one mentoring, provision of teaching and learning material, writing stationary, reading materials and reference books, creative activities and handicrafts, Library corner, In-house Games and Sports, Smart Class Room and Distribution of goody bags to celebrate important days with children. Even during Covid-19, the children continued getting remedial support and writing stationary, practice worksheets, etc. Most of the students at these centres are girls and all eligible girls attending the centres receive free sanitary napkins packets every month, and are counselled about the menstrual health and personal hygiene. CFH’s programme of Learning Centres is congruous to National Education Policy 2020 which emphasizes Ensuring Universal Access at All Levels of schooling from pre-primary school to Grade 12; a recent survey by National Statistical Office (NSO) has revealed that around 12.6% of students drop out of school in India. Concern for Humanity is working assiduously and providing supportive opportunities to the disadvantaged children to prevent them from dropping out of school.
