Since 1974 in India, UNFPA has played a major role in transforming and improving lives, particularly of women, adolescents, and marginalized communities. Through a people-centered approach, UNFPA strives to ensure that every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person&#8217;s potential is realized.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>India, with a vast and diverse population of more than 1.4 billion, presents a range of demographic challenges and opportunities. The country&#8217;s development story is largely predicated on responses to population dynamics, gender inequalities, <a href=\"https:\/\/ngofeed.com\/blog\/national-safe-motherhood-day\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">maternal health<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/ngofeed.com\/blog\/ngos-empowering-youth\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">youth empowerment<\/a>. Maternity Health and Safe Birth<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>UNFPA is working tirelessly to decrease maternal death rates through the promotion of skilled attendance at birth, access to emergency obstetric care, and quality reproductive <a href=\"https:\/\/ngofeed.com\/blog\/role-of-ngos-in-healthcare\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">health <\/a>services. In partnership with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unfpa.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">UNFPA <\/a>supports programs that strengthen:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Antenatal and postnatal care<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Training of midwives and health workers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Improvements in the physical <a href=\"https:\/\/ngofeed.com\/blog\/role-of-ngos-in-environmental-protection\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">environment <\/a>in maternity wards<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Respected and non-discriminatory maternity care<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>UNFPA is currently focusing on the states that are underserved, namely Bihar, <a href=\"https:\/\/ngofeed.com\/blog\/top-ngo-in-madhya-pradesh\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Madhya Pradesh<\/a>, Odisha, and <a href=\"https:\/\/ngofeed.com\/blog\/top-ngo-in-rajasthan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Rajasthan<\/a>, to ensure women in <a href=\"https:\/\/ngofeed.com\/blog\/ngo-in-rural-development\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">rural <\/a>and <a href=\"https:\/\/ngofeed.com\/blog\/ngos-in-tribal-development\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">tribal <\/a>areas have the necessary support for safe births.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"2-family-planning-and-contraception-access\">2. Family Planning and Contraception Access<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>UNFPA promotes universal access to family planning, allowing individuals and couples to decide when to have children and how many to have. Life Skills and Career Guidance<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to sexual health, UNFPA aims to help young people develop life skills, such as communication, decision-making, and critical thinking skills. Through training or vocational training, career counseling, and entrepreneurship programs, young people\u2014especially from marginalized backgrounds\u2014gain the tools to build a better future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"promoting-gender-equality-and-ending-gender-based-violence\">Promoting Gender Equality and Ending Gender-based Violence<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"5-combating-gender-based-violence-gbv\">5. Combating Gender-based Violence (GBV)&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>UNFPA is preventing and responding to <a href=\"https:\/\/ngofeed.com\/blog\/international-day-for-the-elimination-of-violence-against-women\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">gender-based violence<\/a>, especially violence against <a href=\"https:\/\/ngofeed.com\/blog\/role-of-ngo-in-women-empowerment-in-india\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">women <\/a>and girls. Providing support for Data Driven-Demand and Development<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>UNFPA plays a significant role as a technical partner for India\u2019s population scenario analysis, <a href=\"https:\/\/ngofeed.com\/blog\/how-ngos-can-leverage-data-analytics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">data analysis<\/a>, and policy planning. Promoting the Demographic Dividend<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>India has a tremendous economic opportunity in its demographic dividend: its incredible proportion of working-age individuals.
